Morningside defeats Dordt 7-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College lost a7-3 game one decision with the Morningside Mustangs in GPAC play on Saturday, April 21 in Sioux Center.
The Mustangs scored two in the first inning on three hits and the Defenders were fighting from behind the rest of the game.
Dordt rallied to tie it with three hits in the second inning. Justin Silva clubbed a two run homerun with Chris O’Connor on base to tie the game.
The visitors answered immediately with a two run third inning for a 4-2 lead and Dordt trimmed it back with Colton Van Otterloo knocking in Taylor Neuroth with a single.
Trailing 5-3, the Defenders allowed a two run homerun in the seventh and Dordt was retired in order in the bottom of the inning for the 7-3 final.
Colton Van Otterloo had two singles with a run batted in.
Dordt was outhit 13-5.
Silva’s homerun was Dordt’s lone extra base hit.
Andrew Vander Hart struck out two with seven runs allowed and gave up 12 hits in six innings of work for Dordt. Jayson Curtis pitched an inning and struck out one.
Cody Selig got the win for Morningside with three runs given up with five strikeouts.
