Mount Marty defeats Dordt 7-5

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mount Marty scored in six innings and won a 7-5 decision over the Dordt Defenders in game two of their doubleheader in Yankton.

The Defenders scored three in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Zach Fowler had a two run homerun and Chris Schrieber had a solo homerun.

Mount Marty had a run in the third and another in the fourth to tie the game 3-3. Mount Marty then added two in the fifth and another in the sixth for a 6-3 advantage.

Dordt got two runs back in the eighth inning with Chris O’Connor belting a two-run single but the Defenders were unable to overcome Mount Marty’s lead.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt had a 17-12 hits advantage.

Taylor Neuroth was 3-6 at the plate.

Chris O’Connor was 2-5 as was Josh Van Eps.  Andrew Randall and Jason Holwerda were both 3-5 at the plate.

Neuroth and Roose each had doubles to go with Fowler’s and Schrieber’s homeruns.

Andrew Vander Hart pitched five and two-third innings and allowed six runs on ten hits with five strikeouts.

Logan Pierro pitched two and a third innings and struck out three.
