Concordia defeats Dordt 72-69
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt never led in the second half and lost a three-point decision to the Concordia Bulldogs on Wednesday night in Seward, Nebraska.
Dordt pushed the lead to 27-21 with five minutes left in the half on a Chandler Brunsting three-point basket and Alec Henrickson knocked down a basket to answer a Bulldog basket for a 29-23 lead with 2:26 left in the half.
Concordia went on an 11-0 run and the Defenders had to play catch up the rest of the game. Dordt got within 45-43 with 11:46 left in the game with Ben Gesink getting into the lane for a basket. The Defenders got within three on three more occasions, the last with seven seconds left. Dordt had the ball after a turnover and Concordia had a foul to give and committed it with five seconds left.
Alec Henrickson’s three-point shot was blocked out of bounds and Garrett Franken’s long three was off the mark on the ensuing inbounds play and the hosts held on to win 72-69.
Dordt was outrebounded 39-36.
The Defenders were 31-70 from the field and 2-20 from the three-point line and 5-5 from the free throw line.
Concordia was 29-68 from the field and 11-35 from the arc while converting 3-3 free throws.
Dordt forced 12 turnovers while Concordia had nine.
Henrickson had 21 points and four rebounds.
Chad Barkema had eight points and eight rebounds.
Garrett Franken had eight points and four rebounds and Jesse Jansma had eight rebounds.
Brevin Sloup had 22 points and five rebounds.
Justin Wiersma had 13 rebounds.
