Dordt def. Midland 76-56

HOW IT HAPPENED         

Dordt led the final 26 minutes of its game with Midland and took a 76-56 win from the Warriors in Sioux Center on Saturday, February 9.

The Defenders found themselves trailing 26-21 on a Malik Martin basket with 8:37 left in the half. A Josh Van Lingen basket got Dordt to within three and Garrett Franken added a basket with 7:31 left in the half to trim the difference to one.  A Zach Bussard basket tied the game at 27-27 after Midland scored a point on a free throw and Jesse Jansma’s jumper in the lane put Dordt up for good at 29-27.

The Defenders continued to get the ball into the paint and efficiently built a 43-31 halftime lead.

Dordt scored the first three points of the second half and never led by less than 10 in building the advantage up to 62-41. The lead got to as many as 27 points before Dordt settled for the 76-56 win.

COMPARISON

Dordt was 31-66 from the field and 4-23 from the three-point line while making 10-14 free throws.

Midland converted 21-57 from the field and 10-22 three-point shots while converting 4-6 free throws.

Dordt had a 44-32 rebounding edge and forced 16 turnovers and had ten steals.

DORDT’S LEADERS

Zach Bussard came off the bench to convert 7-7 field goals for 18 points and he had seven rebounds.

Garrett Franken added 15 points with five rebounds and three assists.

Josh Van Lingen scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds and he was 6-6 from the field with two assists.

Chad Barkema scored 11 and Jesse Jansma added eight with two steals.

MIDLAND’S LEADERS

Reggie Gradwell scored 15 points before fouling out and he had four rebounds.

Dillon Faubel scored ten and had five rebounds.

RECORDS

Dordt is 10-8 in the league and 18-10 overall.

Midland is 5-13 and 10-17 overall.

COACH BRIAN VAN HAAFTEN SAID

“I thought defensively we played very well today.  We got great play from our five men as Van Lingen and Bussard go 13-13 from the field—that was our advantage in the game.  We couldn’t get it in there enough to be honest with you but it was good enough for this game today.”
