Jamestown def. Dordt 89-76

HOW IT HAPPENED

A late run by the Jamestown Jimmies gave them a cushion they held the rest of the game on the way to an 89-76 win over the Dordt Defenders in GPAC Semifinal round play on Saturday afternoon in Jamestown, North Dakota.

Dordt had a 5-2 lead but Jamestown took the lead at 8-5 and Dordt was playing catch up until a Zach Bussard basket with 7:10 left in the half put the Defenders in front 25-23. A Jesse Jansma three-point basket put Dordt up 28-25 but the hosts had an answer and built a 36-30 lead on back to back three-point baskets and Jamestown was up 40-33 at halftime.

Jamestown quickly built the lead to 48-37 early in the second half and the lead grew to 75-55 with 7:29 left in the game.  Dordt rallied to within 80-71 with 3:00 left on a Garrett Franken three-point basket but five straight by Jamestown squashed the rally.

DORDT’S NUMBERS

Dordt was led by Garrett Franken’s 26 points and five rebounds on 11-13 field goal shooting and he was 3-3 from the three-point line.

Zach Bussard had 13 points and nine rebounds.

Chad Barkema scored 11 with eight rebounds.

Alec Henrickson ended his career with a 10 point performance.

JAMESTOWN NUMBERS

Jack Talley had a team high 21 with nine rebounds and Jon Purintun added 14 points with nine rebounds.

Kevin Oberweiser had 17 points with eight rebounds and four assists.

COMPARISON

Jamestown was 33-64 from the field and 13-37 from the arc.

Dordt converted 29-68 field goals and was 5-22 from the arc.

Jamestown had a 40-37 rebounding advantage. Dordt committed 10 turnovers to nine for the Jimmies.

NEXT

Dordt’s season ends with a 19-13 record while Jamestown advances to the GPAC Finals against Morningside on Tuesday, February 26.  Both Morningside and Jamestown earn automatic berths to the NAIA National Championship in Sioux Falls, South Dakota beginning Wednesday, March 6.
