Concordia defeats Dordt 90-88

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defenders were unable to overcome a third quarter deficit and lost a 90-88 decision with the Concordia Bulldogs on Wednesday, January 30.

The Defenders used a 10-0 run to build a 12-7 lead with 6:04 left in the first quarter Dordt extended the lead to 30-21 at the end of the first quarter.

Dordt built the lead to 45-32 with 3:47 left in the half as Baylee Tetzlaff made a shot in the lane. Concordia outscored Dordt 14-1 the rest of the quarter and the game was tied 46-46 at the half.

Concordia took a 10 point lead near the midpoint of the third period and was still up ten 64-54 but seven in a row by Dordt capped by a Kenzie Bousema free throw got it back to 64-61. Concordia was able to maintain the difference and led 73-68 at the end of the third quarter.

The Defenders continued the comeback and was within one on four different occasions  in the fourth quarter and the score was 86-85 with 4:06 left in the game after Erika Feenstra scored a basket. Neither team scored again until :54 left in the game. 

Feenstra again drew Dordt to within one after a pair of Concordia free throws. Concordia scored a basket with six seconds left to go up 90-87.  Annie Rhinesmith was fouled on the next possession and with four seconds left she made one free throw and missed the second intentionally.  With time running out Erika Feenstra missed a putback attempt and Payton Harmsen’s shot as time expired in the lane was off the mark as well.

COMPARISON

Dordt had a 48-44 rebounding advantage.

Concordia forced 31 turnovers with 21 by steal and Dordt forced 10 turnovers and had eight steals.

Dordt was 28-63 from the field and 6-20 from the arc while converting 26-32 free throws.

Concordia was 35-92 from the field and 7-28 from the three-point line while converting 13-16 free throws.

Erika Feenstra had 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Annie Rhinesmith had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Jordyn Van Maanen came back with 10 points and four rebounds.

Payton Harmsen scored nine points with three, three-point shots.

CONCORDIA’S LEADERS

Philly Lammers had 20 points.

Taylor Cockerill had 17 points and six rebounds. Grace Barry had 15 points and nine rebounds with ten assists.
