Northwestern defeats Dordt 9-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northwestern secured a 9-3 win over the Dordt Defenders in game two of their doubleheader in Sioux Center on Wednesday night.
The visitors scored two runs on three hits in the first inning but Dordt answered with two of its own. Taylor Neuroth was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Colton Van Otterloo walked after Neuroth moved from first to second on a wild pitch and second to third on a stolen base.
Neuroth eventually scored on a Zach Fowler ground out and Van Otterloo came in on a Chris O’Connor single.
Northwestern responded with four runs on four hits in the second.
Dordt’s third run came across in the bottom of the fourth when Josh Vanden Berg knocked in Jason Holwerda and Northwestern equaled that with a run in the fifth.
Dordt had five hits.
Chris O’Connor, Dillon Branderhorst and Josh Van Eps all had one hit and Josh Vanden Berg had a pair.
Vanden Berg knocked in a run and also had a walk.
Trent Roose took the loss and allowed seven hits.
Lucas Nelson pitched five and one-third inning and scattered five hits and allowed one run.
Dordt concludes the regular season on Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28 on the road against Mount Marty.
