Dordt def. Briar Cliff 11-5

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt Defender softball team won a come from behind victory over Briar Cliff in Sioux Center in game one of their doubleheader on Wednesday night.

Briar Cliff scored three in the third but Dordt had a five run answer in the home half of the inning with Carley De Roin delivering a bases clearing three-run double.

Dordt tacked on a run in the fourth but Briar Cliff got two back in the top of the fifth to narrow the lead to 6-5.  The Chargers wouldn’t score again and Dordt added four on four hits in the fifth inning and another run in the sixth inning for  the 11-5 final.

THE NUMBERS

Dordt outhit Briar Cliff 12-8.

Tianna Soodsma notched the win with eight hits allowed and four strikeouts.

Marissa Vanden Berg was 3-4 with three runs batted in and Rachel Evavold  added a single and a double with two runs scored.

Brooklyn Van Oort had two hits and two runs batted in with a double and a single and Jessica Oules had two singles.
