Hannibal-LaGrange def. Dordt 5-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt allowed four runs in the seventh inning and lost a 5-4 decision to Hannibal-LaGrange in O’Fallon, Missouri on Thursday afternoon in the first of three games between the two team on February 14.
Hannibal-LaGrange scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning but Dordt answered with a four run fifth as Jason Holwerda started the inning with a double and Josh Vanden Berg was hit by a pitch. Dillon Branderhorst followed with a single to load the bases and Logan Cline cleared the bases with a triple. David Laurenti followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Cline for a 4-1 lead that Dordt took into the seventh.
Three straight walks loaded the bases to start the bottom of the seventh. A strikeout and a sacrifice fly had Dordt in front 4-2 with two outs but a walk loaded the bases and Alex Roy delivered a walk off triple to clear the bases and give Hannibal LaGrange a 5-4 win.
Dordt had four hits and three walks.
Hannibal LaGrange had five hits and worked for nine walks.
Luke Drooger was the starting pitcher and went four innings and allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout for the Defenders.
Lucas Nelson pitched two innings and was charged with three runs and Jadon Vander Molen took the loss in relief after coming in with two on in the seventh inning.
Cline had a triple for the Defenders and three runs batted in and Jason Holwerda had Dordt’s other extra base hit which was a double. Both worked for a walk as well
Dillon Branderhorst and Jon Bonfils each had singles.
