Mount Marty defeats Dordt 8-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mount Marty Lancers used timely hitting in the second and third inning to help forge an 8-4 win over the Dordt Defenders in GPAC play on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.
Dordt got on the board with a run in the first when Logan Cline scored on a Chris Schrieber single with two outs.
Mount Marty responded with three runs on three hits in the second inning and added two runs on one hit in the third for a 5-1 lead.
Dordt mounted a threat in the bottom of the fourth but a pair of strikeouts ended the inning with two runners on base and a double play ended a similar threat in the fifth.
Mount Marty scored three in the top of the sixth inning on four hits to lead 8-1. The Defenders answered with three runs of their own in the sixth as three walks in a row started the threat. A sacrifice fly scored a run and a single scored two more for the Defenders.
Dordt got one runner on in the seventh with two outs but were unable to sustain the threat.
Justin Bond took the loss with three innings worked and he was charged with five runs.
Lucas Nelson pitched in relief and had two strikeouts in three innings and Cole Vande Vegte pitched a scoreless seventh.
David Laurenti and Chris Schrieber each had two hits and Laurenti knocked in two runs.
Mount Marty’s Kalib Mauch was the winning pitcher with 10 strikeouts.
Dordt will host Northwestern on Monday, April 22 at 5:00 in a resumption of their suspended game from April 15.
Dordt is now 6-24 and 3-20 in the league.
Mount Marty is 23-16 and 15-9.
