HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College men's volleyball team finished its spring break road trip with a 3-2 loss to Viterbo.
After falling behind two sets to zero, the Defenders rallied back to force a fifth set.
Dordt trailed for the entire third set, but took a 21-20 lead late. A 4-2 run sealed the victory. Tiemersma's two kills and service errors by the V-Hawks were the deciding factor.
The teams were tied at 11 midway through set four before the Defenders broke the deadlock with a two-point run. Dordt never let the V-Hakws back within three and earned the set four victory.
Dordt had a 7-6 lead in set five, but couldn't hold Viterbo long enough to secure the victory. The V-Hawks won 15-11.
Ben Tiemersma had 25 kills and 12 digs in the loss.
Garret Vander Zee was close behind with 20 kills and 13 digs.
Austin Clark had 39 assists.
Jacob Nonn led all players with 31 kills. He also added 17 digs.
Andrew Lepage had 53 assists in the win.
COACH HANSON SAID
"With a slow start to the match and down 0-2 in sets, we rallied strong to force a fifth set. Many different guys contributed through this match and we relied on their contributions to stay competitive."
Dordt will face off against Viterbo again on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Sioux Center.
