HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College men's volleyball team lost 3-1 to conference foe Ottawa on Thursday.
The first set went the way of the Defenders. Ottawa took an early 10-5 lead, but Dordt chipped away and tied things at 12. The momentum stayed in favor of Dordt and they held the lead until Ottawa tied the set at 20. There were five lead changes over the rest of the set and Dordt escaped with a 27-25 victory.
The Braves responded well in set number two with a 25-16 win. The Defenders had the set tied at nine, but Ottawa outscored Dordt 16-7 over the rest of the set to earn the victory.
Dordt started set three with a 14-9 run. Ottawa was able to settle in and tied things at 15. Dordt wasn't able to recover from the run and the Otters took a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 victory.
Set four was all Ottawa. A 10-4 run to start created enough separation and the Otters won 25-16.
Ben Tiemersma led Dordt with 17 kills and five digs.
Garret Vander Zee had 13 kills and six digs.
Tyler Postma and Austin Clark shared time at the setting position. Postma had 15 assists and Clark had 20.
PJ Tulikihihifo had 17 kills.
Ashan Jordan had 13 kills and nine digs.
Bryce Thompson had 40 assists to lead all players.
Dordt will take on Park at noon on Saturday in Sioux Center.
