(Monday; May 21; Sioux Center, Iowa) Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2018 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field season were announced Monday, May 21, by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Caleb Drake (Senior; Rock Island, Illinois), was named the Midwest Region’s Track Athlete of the Year.
Drake is ranked in the top-15 nationally in both the 10,000 and 5,000. He’s atop the region in both of those events and is the only male athlete in the Midwest Region to own that distinction. Drake is scheduled to compete in both of those events at the NAIA National Championship. Drake won the 2018 GPAC outdoor 5,000 meter championship and was the GPAC indoor champion in both the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter races this winter.
Each of the five regions honored both genders’ top track athletes and field athletes, and the top men’s and women’s head coaches and assistant coaches.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
