(Monday, July 23; Sioux Center, Iowa) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced 1,862 programs have been named 2017-18 NAIA Scholar-Teams.
17 Dordt College teams met the qualifying standard for the NAIA Team-Scholar Program. Teams must maintain at least a 3.00 grade point average for the school year to be considered scholar-teams by the NAIA.
“The academic achievements of our athletic teams speak to the excellence our coaches and student-athletes expect from themselves, not only in the classroom, but in all spheres of their lives. Such honors are a byproduct of our holistic approach to athletics in which all stakeholders of the Defender Way seek continual improvement in all their engagements. These high academic marks are reflective of the communal efforts of the Dordt College community and should be celebrated by numerous vested entities,” said Dordt College Athletic Director Ross Douma.
The Defender women’s basketball team had a 3.76 grade point average for the past school year and had the highest grade point average of the Dordt teams receiving the honor.
