Football In Orange City Saturday

ON THE DOCKET…

THE FOE…

Northwestern is 5-0 this season and 4-0 in the GPAC. The Raiders have wins in the league over Jamestown, Midland, Dakota Wesleyan and Doane.  This will be Northwestern’s third home game this season. Northwestern is averaging 39 points per game while allowing 15 per contest.

Northwestern is gaining 211 yards on the ground and 230 in the air while allowing 105 yards rushing and 164 passing.  Northwestern outgains teams 441-269.

Jacob Kalogonis has gained 684 yards on the ground in 118 attempts with nine touchdowns. Tyson Kooima has gained 223 yards on 52 carreis and four touchdowns. Kooima has completed 71-122 passes for 1,151 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Shane Solberg has 24 catches for 17.1 yards per reception with four touchdowns. Jared Nelson has 14 catches for 20.6 yards per catch and Canon Flores and Cade Moser each have 12 catches for 14.7 and 17.3 yards per reception with Moser at three touchdown receptions.

Braxton Williams is 22-26 on point after tries and is 3-7 on field goals with a long of 44 yards. Williams and Marcus Rens each have nine punt attempts for 33.4 and 29.7 yards per punt respectively.

Bryce Van Beek has four inteceptions and Noah Van’t Hof has two and each have a pick-six to their credit.

Sean Powell has 44 tackles and 1.5 sacks and Van Beek and Tanner Machacek each have 28 tackles with Machacek has two sacks.  Ben Granstra has three sacks to lead the team and 5.5 tackles for loss.

THE DEFENDERS…

The Defenders are 3-1 this season after a 38-19 win over Concordia on Saturday and Dordt is 2-1 in the GPAC. 

Dordt has outscored teams 175-100 through three games.  The Defenders are averaging 467 yards of offense with 386 allowed.  Dordt gets 285 on the ground and 181 in the air.

Levi Schoonhven has 49 rushing attempts for 338 yards and six touchdowns. Keithen Drury has 57 rushes for 286 yards and four toucdowns.  Brock Lamle has 129 yards rushing and has 37 pass completions with eight touchdowns.  Levi Jungling has 16 receptions for 21.7 yards and two touchdowns. Dodge has eight receptions for 13.4 yards per catch with two touchdowns. Matthew Oh-Slackhas four catches for 23.8 per reception and one touchdown.

Casey Byker has punted 14 times for a 34.9 average and Brett Gaines is 5-5 on field goals with a long of 39. Gaines is also 20-21 on point after tries. 

Connor Bosma has been in on 33 tackles while Nathan Kabongo has 30 with an interception and Byker has 29 tackles with four for loss.  Josh Mrazek has 7.5 tackles for loss and Julius Buchanan has 5.5 and David Kacmarynski has five tackles for loss. Tyson Dahlgrin has 2.5 sacks, Kacmarynski has two and Buchanan has three.   

LAST ACTION…

Northwestern beat Doane 28-25 on Saturday. Northwestern was down 10-0 after one quarter and then scored 21 in the second half for a 21-10 halftime lead. Northwestern outgained Doane 362-299  with 230 of Northwestern’s yards coming on the ground. Kalogonis gained 196 yards on the ground on 31 carries and Kooima was 13-22 passing for 132 yards. Sayler and Van Beek each had one interception and Machacek had a sack.

Dordt beat Concordia 38-19 in Sioux Center on Saturday. Dordt outgained Concordia 397-325 and the Defenders ran for 222 yards.  Keithen Drury ran for 97 yards with 16 rushes and Jungling had four rushes for 57 yards. Lamle had nine completions with Jungling had five receptions for 106 yards and Kacmarynski had eight tackles with four tackles for loss and one sack.

HISTORY…

Northwestern defeated Dordt 41-23 last season in Orange City on October 28.  Dordt had a 16-6 lead after a Jake Dodge touchdown pass right before halftime. A touchdown run by Brock Lamle midway through the third quarter put Dordt up 23-13 but Northwestern scored four unanswered touchdowns to win 41-23.

Keithen Drury had 30 rushes and 157 yards and Lamle and Jungling each had nine carries for 54 and 44 yards resepectively. Kalogonis ran for 214 yards and two scores for Northwestern and Kooima had three touchdown runs for 84 yards.   Kooima passed for 227 yards and Lamle 110. Dodge made seven receptions for 83 yards and Kalogonis had five catches for 88 yards for Northwestern.
