Soccer Hosts Saturday Contest

The Defender soccer teams will host Mount Marty on Tuesday, October 2 starting with the women’s contest at 1:00. The matches can be viewed at . Results will be available at  and at .


The College of Saint Mary Flames are 1-9-1 this season and 1-3-1 in the GPAC. The Flames have been outscored 54-5 this year and outshot on goal 126-51. Kennedy Cascio has scored three goals for the Flames to lead the Omaha, Nebraska based team.  Karen Hernandez has played 516 minutes in goal with 31 goals allowed and has made 36 saves with a 5.5 goals allowed average. Morgan Dillon has played 387 minutes in goal and has a 4.87 goals allowed average with 21 goals allowed and 23 saves made.


The Defender women are 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the GPAC and got above .500 in the league with a win over Mount Marty on Tuesday. The Defenders have outscored teams 24-20 and have been outshot on goal 77-61. Alaina Van Zalen and Kenzie Bousema each have six goals scored this season and Cailey Terpstra has three assists. DeLynne Zevenbergen and Karlee Kuyvenhoven have played 450 and 540 minutes in goal respectively. Zevenbergen has made 24 saves and has allowed 10 goals.  Kuyvenhoven has 10 goals allowed and has made 33 saves.


The College of Saint Mary Flames were on the short end of a 4-0 decision with Midland on Wednesday. The Flames were outshot on goal 8-1 and Hernandez had four saves.

The Defender women had a 5-0 victory over Mount Marty on Tuesday night with a 9-0 shots on goal advantage. Alaina Van Zalen scored two goals and Cailey Terpstra, Amelia Rens and Rachel Zuidema all had one goal for the Defenders.


Dordt was a 2-0 winner over the Flames on October 28, 2017. Natalie Sakuma and Kenzie Bousema each had a goal and Karlee Kuyvenhoven had four saves in the shutout.


The Defenders are back at home on Monday, October 8 when they host Dakota Wesleyan in a make-up game from earlier this year.  The women’s game starts at 1:00 with the men following at about 3:15. After that the Defenders are on the road to Sioux City for back to back games against Morningside on October 13 and Briar Cliff on October 24
