(Wednesday; November 28; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender women’s basketball team is no. 15 in the first in-season coaches’ poll released on November 27.
Dordt took 176 points after posting a 7-2 record to start the season. This is the highest the Defenders have been rated since November 30, 2010 when Dordt pushed as high as no. 18 in the coaches’ ranking.
The Defenders stand 2-2 in GPAC play and will face no. 5 Northwestern on Wednesday, November 28 and no. 20 Jamestown on Saturday, December 1.
Dordt’s two losses this season are to no. 2 Dakota Wesleyan and no. 8 Morningside.
Dordt is one of eight teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference in the poll with Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan and Northwestern occupying spots 1, 2 and 5. Morningside is no. 8; Hastings no. 12; Jamestown is no. 20 and Midland is no. 25. Briar Cliff, Dordt’s opponents on December 5, is in the receiving votes portion of the poll listing.
The poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions. The next poll is the final poll released in 2018 with the voting resuming for a January 9 compilation.
