(Tuesday; December 4; Sioux Center, Iowa) Erika Feenstra (Sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) has been named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics women’s basketball player of the week for contests played November 26-December 2.
Feenstra averaged 37.5 points per game in a pair of contests against Northwestern and Jamestown, a pair of nationally ranked opponents. Dordt finished the week 1-1 as Feenstra scored a school record 43 points against Northwestern and then followed that with 32 points against Jamestown. She converted 76 percent of her field goals and took 37 shots from the field for the week. Feenstra also averaged seven rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot in the two games.
“Performances like this don’t just happen. Erika worked to prepare herself physically and improve her game and this is the continuation of a strong start to the season for her. Performances like this also don’t happen without strong team play. Our team has done a great job this season of finding the advantages that we have and has been extremely unselfish. Being part of a strong conference means we have good teams to prepare for each week and this coming week will be no different,” said Dordt College coach Bill Harmsen.
The Defenders are currently 8-3 overall and 3-3 in the GPAC and are rated 15th in the NAIA in the most recent coaches’ poll. Feenstra is currently averaging 26.2 points per game with 8.2 rebounds and she is converting 66 percent of her field goals and gets a steal per game. She’s leading the NAIA in scoring and field goal percentage.
Feenstra The Defenders continue GPAC play Wednesday night with road test against Briar Cliff before returning home to face Hastings on Saturday, December 8.
