(Thursday, March 28; Sioux Center, Iowa) John Emerson, a senior at Denver East High School (Colorado), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender baseball program.
Emerson has a .411 batting average with 44 hits, 15 doubles and three triples and an on base percentage of .488. In 12 innings on the mound he has 25 strikeouts. Emerson earned first-team all-league honors after his junior season and was an honorable mention all-state pick while also serving as his team's captain. After his sophomore season Emerson was a second-team all-league pick.
“John is an impact player for us both as a hitter and as an outstanding left handed pitcher. He will be an outstanding fit on our campus," said Dordt baseball coach Jeff Schouten.
John is the son of Rick and Alisa Emerson. He plans to study Chemical Engineering at Dordt.
Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).
U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine, Forbes.com, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
