(Monday, April 1; Sioux Center, Iowa) Chandler Schemper, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender volleyball and softball programs.
Schemper was an all-state honorable mention selection in softball last summer and has earned first-team and second-team all-conference honors during her career. She batted .305 last season with three homeruns and 16 runs batted in. She played shortstop for the Wolfpack.
“We are thrilled to have Chandler joining our softball program. Chandler is a gamer and we look forward to seeing her continue to develop as a student athlete during her time at Dordt. Chandler will contribute in a variety of ways in our program and on campus and we are fortunate to get to walk along with her on her journey!” said Dordt softball coach Jeff Zomer.
Schemper claimed second-team honors from the Northwest Iowa Review in volleyball and was a first-team all-conference pick and an Academic All-State selection as Western claimed a Class 2A state title. She had 350 digs and 256 kills for Western which was a 2.23 kills per set average and 2.97 digs per set average. Schemper has been a defensive specialist and outside hitter while at Western.
“Chandler is a great athlete with capability to impact our backrow positions. She is quick and has strong defensive instincts. Through her high level experience at Western Christian under coach Tammi Veerbeek, we have watched her develop into a college-ready player. Chandler will bring her heart to serve the Lord and others to our campus community and we are excited," said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.
Chandler is the daughter of Jeff and Jill Schemper of Sheldon, Iowa. She plans to study Nursing at Dordt.
