(Thursday, June 1; Sioux Center, Iowa) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced 395 women’s softball student-athletes have been named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar-Athletes.  Dordt College had three athletes on that list.

Michal Huizenga (Senior; Grandville, Michigan) is a repeat honoree while Corinne Valdix (Junior; Pleasonton, California) and Krista Bousema (Junior; Sheldon, Iowa) earned the honor for the first time in their career.

Huizenga graduated in May after studying Elementary Education while Valdix is studying Exercise Science and Bousema is in the Criminal Justice program.

Huizenga batted .325 this season with a team high 25 runs batted in and three homeruns.

Valdix played in 41 games and batted .225 and Bousema started six games.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
