The Dordt College Prairie in Sioux Center is blooming, and filled with the sounds of birds. Several Dordt College professors want to share its beauty with the community and help answer questions like these: What is flowering this month? What bird species are nesting in the prairie? Why wasn’t some of the prairie burned or mowed this spring? Which prairie flowers would grow well in a home garden? How do you control weeds in a prairie?

This first Prairie Walk of the year will be held Thursday, June 22, from 7 to 8 p.m., beginning at the northwest corner of the Dordt College Soccer Field (on the east side of campus). Everyone is welcome to come and explore the prairie. Handouts with color photos will be provided to showcase prominent prairie plants and birds.

Contact Dordt College Biology/Environmental Studies Professor Dr. Robert De Haan at 722-6220 or Robert.DeHaan@dordt.edu if you have questions or would like more information.
