(Wednesday, September 6; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff Mid-America Sports have announced the volleyball Players-of-the-Week for contests played August 28-September 3 and Dordt College’s Summer Jansen (Senior; Sheldon, Iowa) has been named the Defensive-Specialist-of-the-Week. Jansen also claimed the NAIA Weekly National honor later in the day Tuesday.

Jansen averaged 5.92 digs per set in Dordt’s four matches.  She had had 22 digs against both no. 14 Montana Tech and no. 23 Carroll.  She had four ace serves during a week in which the Defenders beat three ranked opponents.

“Summer is having one of the best starts to her volleyball career with on-court performance as well as leadership.  She understands the game very well and adjustments that we can make throughout a match to put our defense in best positions to stop the opposing team.  She has been passing, digging, and serving at high levels and is well deserving of this honor by the conference and the NAIA.  Summer’s desire to serve God and her teammates continues to play out with each opportunity to share in this fun sport,” said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.

Jansen is averaging 4.71 digs per set and has 14 service aces so far this season. The Defenders are 11-2 this year and has won ten matches in a row.  Dordt opens GPAC play on Wednesday night, September 6 against no. 25 Morningside and will host no. 12 Grand View on Saturday, September 9 with varsity paly at 2:30 pm.
