(Wednesday, September 6; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff Mid-America Sports have announced the volleyball Players-of-the-Week for contests played August 28-September 3 and Dordt College’s Jamie Gesink (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) has been named the Setter-of-the-Week. Later in the day on Tuesday Gesink was named the NAIA National Setter-of-the-Weeek as well
Gesink averaged 12.38 assists per set in four matches. She averaged nearly a kill per set with 2.0 digs per outing. She put up 50 assists in a four set win over no. 14 Montana Tech and she had 42 assists in a sweep over no. 23 Carroll. She had four ace serves during a week in which the Defenders beat three ranked opponents.
“Jamie’s continued growth and connections with our hitters through this pre-season has been wonderfully recognized through this honor by the GPAC and the NAIA. Each day and week, she provides a terrific focus on offensive development with strategies to make her hitters more successful. Further, she has put a great emphasis on growing her defensive game near and away from the net. She is blessed to use her God-given ability to its fullest and serve her teammates in many different ways,’ said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.
Gesink is averaging 10.33 assists per set with 1.26 kills and 2.05 dig. She has 16 ace serves as the Defenders have built an 11-2 this year and has won ten matches in a row. Dordt opens GPAC play on Wednesday night, September 6 against no. 25 Morningside and will host no. 12 Grand View on Saturday, September 9 with varsity paly at 2:30 pm.
