(Thursday; September 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender women’s cross country team is ranked no. 11 in the NAIA Women’s Cross Country Coaches’ Poll released on Wednesday, September 13.

The Defenders were no. 10 in the pre-season poll and have run two races in between polls. Dordt won the Defender Holiday Inn Express Classic on September 9 and took 412 points in the balloting conducted by coaches representing each of the conferences within the NAIA. The Defenders swapped spots with SCAD-Atlanta which was no.11 in the pre-season poll. 21 points separate Dordt in 11th and the team at no. 8.

“Our women are coming off a great race at our home meet this past week.  They beat two ranked teams in Hastings and Morningside, both of whom are ranked in this most recent poll and are very strong teams.  The women have been getting in quality training and have been able to maintain good health to this point in the season.  We hope to continue to progress as the season continues and be able to compete well in November,” said Dordt College cross country coach Nate Wolf.

The poll is littered with three GPAC teams as Morningside moved to no. 15 and Hastings is no. 21.

The Defenders are off until September 23 when they run at the Dean White Invite at Crete, Nebraska.
