THE FOE…

Hastings College is 5-1 this season and 2-1 in the GPAC with a 38-35 loss to Dakota Wesleyan standing between Hastings and perfection at this point of the season.  The Broncos next closest game was a 52-35 win over Southwestern on September 2.  Tony Hobson’s team is ranked 19th in the most recent NAIA Coaches’ Poll.

The Broncos are averaging 273 yards per game on the ground and 176 in the air.  Tahj Willingham is the leading ground gainer with a 6.8 per carry average, 13 touchdowns and 847 yards through six games. Quarterback Anthony Cloyd has 541 yards rushing this year with five touchdowns and a 6.4 yards per carry average.  Cloyd has completed 60-108 passes for 940 yards, ten touchdowns and no interceptions.  Noah Housh is Cloyd’s favorite receiver with a 21.5 average and four touchdowns and 19 total grabs. Jordan Johnson and Rashaad Shamburger have 13 and 12 catches each with 15.7 and 10.5 averages each. Johnson has three touchdown receptions.  Hastings averages 41.5 points per game.

Alex Stodgill is 33-33 on point after tries and dis 5-10 on field goals with a long of 39.  He also handles the punting with a 37.2 average.

Wesley Jardim has 19 solo tackles and an interception. Tyler Kennedy, Nathan Howe and Norman McKissack all have 17 solo tackles and Tyler Parthemer has a team high 6.5 tackles for loss. Austin Bretting leads the team with 2.5 quarterback sacks and Anthony Murray has a team high three interceptions.  The Broncos give up 19.5 points per game; 199 yards rushing and 139 yards passing.

THE DEFENDERS…

Dordt is 3-2 this season and 1-2 in the GPAC with losses this year to Morningside and Midland in league play and a GPAC win over Doane.

The Defenders average 35 points per game on offense and have allowed 23 points per game this season. The Defenders average 280 yards per game on the ground and the defense has allowed 181 yards rushing per contest. Dordt’s passing game is good for 210 yards per game and are allowing 222 yards per game in the air.

Brock Lamle is 55-114 passing for 996 yards (199.2 yards per game) with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Keithen Drury has rushed for 591 yards on 75 carries and seven touchdowns. His per rush average is 6.6 yards per contest. Levi Schoonhoven has 306 yards on 37 carries which is a 5.4 per attempt average and he has two touchdowns. Levi Jungling has 27 receptions for five touchdowns and a 21.1 yards per catch average. Ben Heuvelhorst has 12 catches and a 12.4 average and Jake Dodge has nine catches for an 17.4 average.

Arie Hoekstra has 28 solo tackles with 11 assisted stops. Josiah Kotte has 20 solo and 15 assisted stops while Joey Lovetere and Ryan Cisneros each have 19 solo tackles . Tyson Dahlgrin has three sacks and Nic Byl has two. Kotte has 7.5 tackles for loss and Dahlgrin and David Kacmarynski each have four tackles for loss. Jordan Weiland has recovered two fumbles and six different players have one interception each.

Casey Byker has punted 21 times for a 38.0 yards per punt average and Jeff Paepke is 5-8 on field goal attempts with a long of 44 and he has converted 8-8 point after attempts.

LAST ACTION…

Hastings led Briar Cliff 24-14 at halftime before scoring 21 points in the third quarter this past Saturday to secure a 45-14 win.  The Broncos ran for 377 yards and passed for 166.  Willingham had 178 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns and Cloyd had 10 carries for 161 yards and one score.  Willingham had a scoring run of 67 yards and Cloyd one for 70 yards. Cloyd completed eight passes for 156 yards  with three to Housh for 92 yards and two scores.

Dordt beat Doane 21-16 last week with a Ryan Cisneros interception sealing the win late in the game.  Dordt got 71 yards from Schoonhoven and 47 by Drury and Lamle was 17-33 passing for 229 yards. Jungling caught 11 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Cisneros had seven solo and four assisted stops with 1.5 tackles for loss and Kotte and Hoekstra each had six solo tackles.

HISTORY…

Dordt beat Hastings on October 22 by a 44-43 margin in Hastings in a game that featured nearly 1100 yards of offense.  Bryce Lidtka’s six yard run with 1:43 remaining won the game.  Lidtka ran for 240 yards on 35 carries and Schoonhoven had 12 carries for 97 yards.  Willingham ran for 100 yards on 12 carries and he scored three touchdowns. Cloyd ran for 30 yards and was 1-1 passing.  Cruz Samamiego quarterbacked the Broncos with 75 rushing yards and was 18-32 passing for 228 yards.

AROUND THE CORNER…

Hastings will travel to face Morningside on October 21.

Dordt is at home for a second straight week on October 21 against Concordia before going on the road to face Northwestern on October 28.
